Harvest Restaurant: An Updated Dining Review
In mid-August 2023, Ms. Karen and I enjoyed the Van Gogh Exhibit at the Oro Valley Marketplace. We were blown away by its imaginative presentation of the famous artist’s paintings. Brilliant! And since we were already that far north, we decided to do lunch after attending the exhibit.
So we traveled down La Cañada Drive to Harvest Restaurant. We had been to the Harvest on River Road some years ago and really enjoyed it. But they closed that location even though we had rated it 5 Saguaros back then. Don’t they know who we are? LOL
This time, at this Oro Valley location, we sat on the patio with a view of Pusch Ridge off to the East. It was warm, but the misters kept us comfortable. At 11:30 there were few people, so we had our choice.
Ms. Karen ordered a sauvignon blanc, while I ordered a pinot grigio. We both prefer dry white wines.
Then she ordered a Smoked Salmon or Chicken Cobb without either salmon or chicken. It included organic field greens tossed w/ house-made ranch dressing, her choice of house-smoked fresh salmon or all-natural chicken, bacon, green onions, cherry tomatoes, boiled eggs, avocado & gorgonzola cheese (gf w/ no gorgonzola) ($16.90).
I ordered a Brandy Burger which was grass-fed beef, aged sharp white cheddar, caramelized red onions, local organic tomatoes & organic field greens drizzled w/ house-made brandy sauce ($15.90). Methinks last time at the River location I had their Truffle Mushroom Melt which included grass-fed beef, topped with sauteed mushrooms and caramelized onions drizzled in truffle oil, fontina cheese & roasted garlic spinach truffle aioli on grilled multigrain bread ($16.90). It was sooo good!
I’ll let Karen tell you about her experience.
” Okay, so the last time we were here, or there, I had the Brandy Burger, and declared that it was the best burger in town. Now, I don’t eat so much, so whilst I was in the little somebodies room, (One restroom fits all) Jim ordered a Cobb salad for me. Now, I had not looked at the menu very well, and did not realize that I had my choice of proteins, ALL Inclusive! I say this because too often these days Salads are great but if you want “Meat” (Protein) on them it will cost you more. REALLY? Oh good grief. But, later I found out that the price of the salad actually included either the Salmon or Chicken. BRAVO!”
I had insisted that we sit outside on the patio with a view of the parking lot and Pusch Ridge. Jim accommodated me, as it was the day before my birthday, and the least he could do. That and 2 glasses of vino. Hey, It is my birthday week. I confess that I am a bit claustrophobic and do not like enclosed spaces. Also, I always sit with my back to the wall. (Just Kidding) .
So, the salad was great despite its lack of protein. I did not know that the protein was not extra as most restaurants have taken to charging you for. Not sure what you call gorgonzola if not protein though.
It was not busy, but it was early. Harvest has always been a great local restaurant with fresh ingredients and attention to detail. And they are locally owned. OH, and Jim’s French Fries were excellent.” (karen out).
My Brandy Burger was delicious. And the French fries were exceptionally good. I added a dab of mayo on my burger just ’cause I like mayo on burgers. We rate Harvest four and a half Saguaros. Very good indeed!
