Been to a Movie at the Loft Cinema?
Since moving to Tucson more than 15 years ago, we have been to a few movies, and even fewer at the Loft Cinema in midtown Tucson. Jim was there for a showing of the Empire Ranch summer benefit movie, and I had never been. We have a great home theater system at home and little reason to venture out to a theater. However, this week we were compelled to see the new movie about Tucson’s beloved Linda Ronstadt.
Jim needing assistance, I went to the Loft’s website to see what the ADA facilities were. Having no seating charts of the theatres, I found a picture of a theatre in the “Rent the Loft” section. All of them indicated that they were ADA accessible. Not being familiar with the Loft, we chose the only show that was in Theatre 3.
I saw where you could buy tickets online, so we bought them. Then I invited some friends and we bought 2 more online. It was fortuitous. When we arrived at 2pm, the parking lot was full and Theatre 3 had sold out. As it turns out, theatre 3 has less than 100 seats, where the others had 300 or so, including a 70mm theatre and the largest screen in Southern Arizona. In short, Theatres 1 or 2 may be a better bet. They are closer to the restrooms and popcorn as well. Theatre 3 was added in 2012, a repurposed autoshop. I am not sure whether they have restrooms or not. Presumably they do somewhere. If you do get Theatre 3, and can make the journey, go up to the back of the theatre. You may get neck strain from the front. All of the theatres now have digital technology.
Keep in mind that The Loft Cinema is a non-profit organization. They present a wide-ranging genre of movie choices at an extremely reasonable price. Once a year, in the summer, they provide children with a free venue, Kid’s Fest, sponsored in part by Mildred and Dildred from La Encantada.
IF you love the movies, buy a membership to the Loft today and receive additional discounts during their membership drive. One of the perks is a bottomless popcorn bucket and 4, instead of 2 free passes and Free Member Screenings. Ends September 30.
