On the day before Neighbor Roy and I were scheduled to do lunch, I asked him what kind of food he wanted to eat this Friday. He replied that he wanted Oriental. So I chose Chef Wang on Grant Road in Tucson. It was fairly close to our homes and from their website, looked like they had an extensive menu of good Chinese meals.
It was raining when we arrived, and the wait staff was busy mopping up the entrance. We were seated right away. There were only a few patrons at various tables. A look around the place indicated that it was spotlessly clean. And decorated in modern Chinese fashion.
A very tiny young Oriental lady took our drink orders. Roy ordered his usual hot tea ($2.50) and I ordered Iced Tea with lemon ($2.75).
At the same time, we ordered (2) Chicken Egg Rolls ($4.50). We were surprised at how fast they were delivered to our table. Hot and very tasty.
We then ordered our lunches. Roy ordered the House Lo Mein, noodles with shrimp, beef, and chicken ($13.98). I ordered the Braised Pork Bowl in Brown Sauce ($18.98). Again, we took notice of just how quickly our meals were served.

“This week, Jim and I dined at the Chef Wang restaurant on Grant Road. It was a rainy day in Tucson, so the luncheon crowd was rather light. We were seated promptly, menus provided by a lovely Chinese waitress and drink orders taken. I ordered Oolong tea and water. In reviewing the extensive menus, all items were pictured. In reviewing the menu–I began to notice a lot of new dishes–such as sauerkraut pork; so many that I told Jim–there must be a German cook in the kitchen. We ordered an appetizer of egg rolls with an excellent sweet sauce. I ordered house Lo-mein–a dish of noodles, slivered veggies, and slices of beef, chicken and shrimp. The egg rolls were hot, full of veggies and quite good. When my lunch arrived, I realized it was enough for two meals. This dish was perfectly done–with enough to fill a take-home box. As mentioned, it rained quite hard so the luncheon crowd was small. The restaurant is rather large, is appropriately decorated in Chinese style. It was immaculate, the waitress was attentive and the food was above average. In short, I give this restaurant 4 saguaros.”
My Braised Pork was small, cubed, and tender pork chunks in a brown sauce, the likes of which I had never tasted before. So I can’t describe for you what it tasted like, only that I enjoyed it immensely. Like Roy, I rate Chef Wang with 4 Saguaros. Excellent food, above and beyond good service, very clean and stylish.
