Tucson Meet Yourself Is Both Local & Very International
As Tucsonans going about our daily business, few of us realize just how culturally diverse our city is. But over a 3-day weekend each October, Tucson puts on a big event Downtown and our diversity is recognized and celebrated.
In 2017, the 43rd Tucson Meet Yourself drew over 120,000 people who came to share in Tucson’s ethnic diversity and our common humanity. Over 50 cultures & ethnicities were represented, including:
Puerto Rican, West African, Mexican, Native Americans, Indian, Brazilian, Greek, Turkish, Honduran, Jewish, Syrian, Scandinavian, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Ivory Coast, Somali, Iraqi, Hawaiian, Nepali, Filipino, Chinese, Armenian, Cuban, Polynesian, Peruvian, Costa Rican.
How do all these diverse people share their unique culture? Though their own culture’s amazing food, art, dances and songs. 2017 TMY had over 50 food vendors, 100 performances over the 3-day event, and 5,000 volunteers. There is so much good and exotic food here that the event has been nicknamed “Tucson Eat Yourself”. If you have enjoyed this event in past years, you know why.
