Fun at the Sonoita Horse Races
We had been planning to go to the Sonoita Horse Races ever since we moved to Tucson 13 years ago, and just never seemed to make it. That all changed this year. Of course we go to the Rillito Horse Races, 6 weeks in February-March, every year … win a little … lose a little. Great Fun!
The Sonoita Horse Races are held on the same day as the Kentucky Derby; first Saturday in May. And most ladies in attendance wear their opulent hats in celebration of the auspicious occasion … just like at Churchill Downs. In fact, they have a “HAT” contest.
Saturday, May 7, 2016 was a Goldilocks Day … not too hot … not too cold … just right!!!
Here’s what we saw.

We delight in the beauty of the rolling grasslands of Sonoita, both cattle country and wine country, with the Santa Rita Mountains in the background.

Here Ms. Rosemary and I await the results of the 2nd race as if our retirement depends on the results.
And then there was the HAT Contest. May the best hat win. What do you think?
