A Tucson Sense of Place: Outdoor Public Art & Murals
Between the City of Tucson and Pima County, Metro Tucson boasts over 100 displays of outdoor public art. Like our many festivals and unique cuisine, our public art, including dozens of murals, some quite new, contributes to Tucson’s “Sense of Place”, its identity if you will.
Thanks to Rob Allen of Rob Allen Media for the flyover video of several murals in the neighborhoods of Tucson, some of which we were not aware.
The Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona has a website that lists all of the area’s public art displays with a map to their locations. The City of Tucson has a wonderful interactive map of the murals in town, most of them downtown. Some of the murals on this map are now gone, and some new ones, not yet marked have appeared, at least one of them is quite timely. El Jefe, one of our favorites is gone, unfortunately as is El Jefe, himself.
