Between the City of Tucson and Pima County, Metro Tucson boasts over 100 displays of public art. Like our many festivals and unique cuisine, our public art contributes to Tucson's "Sense of Place".
The Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona has a website that lists all of the area's public art displays with a map to their locations. The City of Tucson has a wonderful interactive map of the murals in town, most of them downtown.
One Sunday afternoon, Ms. Karen & I spent a couple of hours hunting for and photographing Tucson's public art. It was kind of like a scavenger hunt with something new of interest at each way point; sometimes quirky, sometimes funny, sometimes joyous, sometime somber.
After a while, we stopped in at Agustin Kitchen for Ms. Karen's favorites: oysters. Who knew that mixing public art with gastronomical delights would be a splendid way to spend an afternoon on the town.
