Nana’s Kitchen: Dining Mexican in Marana: A Review
On a Friday in July 2021, Neighbor Roy and I ate lunch at Nana’s Kitchen off Cortaro Road across from the Pavilions Shopping Center. I picked this restaurant because it was (A) on the West and thus only 14 minutes from home, (B) we had never dined there before, and (C), it was rated four and a half stars out of five by TripAdvisor.
When we arrived the place was not crowded, there were several empty tables about. Our waitress showed up at our table shortly and took our drink orders. Roy ordered hot tea as usual. I ordered a margarita with salt, as usual.
Once she brought our drinks she took our orders. Roy ordered the Carne Asada Burrito: Grilled Angus Flank Steak, served with Green Chilis, Tomatoes, Onions, and Guacamole ($12.99). I ordered Nana’s Special Burrito: with Ground Beef and Potatoes ($11.99).
While sipping on my margarita, I was disappointed to find that it was “weak”, watered down a bit. It just lacked that zesty flavor of lime juice combined with tequila.
Here are Roy’s comments: “Our latest lunch visit was to Nana’s, a Mexican restaurant in far NW Tucson. Our choice was a family style restaurant in a large shopping center off I-10. The restaurant was large, including a well-stocked bar and large dining room combination. There were few diners. Our server was prompt, took our orders and brought our chips/dips with both hot and mild salsa, I ordered a carne asada burrito and hot tea. While awaiting our orders, I noticed our waitress serving other tables–the servings seemed large. When we were served, my observation was correct. My plate was filled by the burrito, and refried beans. My first bite revealed that I was about to enjoy one of the best burritos in Tucson. The tortilla was exceptional, the fillings tasty and plentiful. I was barely able to finish my lunch–it was good and several dollars cheaper than most Mexican restaurants in Tucson. I would give it 3 1/2 saguaros, if you go, go hungry–you will enjoy it more.”
I must say that the service was very good. Our waitress, a Hispanic lady whose name I didn’t get, was friendly and efficient. Both Roy and I give Nana’s three and a half Saguaros. I would have given it four except for the disappointing margarita. Our burritos were excellent.
