Lunch At Agustin Kitchen: A Dining Review
In mid-May 2023, Ms. Karen and I, along with recent Tucson friends (they just moved here from Oregon), Linda and Gus, had lunch at Augustin Kitchen on their patio. Ms. Karen had known these friends since her college days. As it turned out, this was a “Thank You” lunch. They were buying this lunch in thanks for letting them stay at our place while their home in Ventana Canyon was being painted.
Our waitress first served us ice-cold water, then took our drink orders. Karen and I both ordered a dry white wine (so good I had two). Gus ordered a soft drink and Linda stayed with the cold water. Our waitress returned with our drinks and we ordered lunch.
Gus ordered a Steak Sandwich, consisting of striploin, carmelized onions + peppers, sambal aioli, + Havarti ($23.00).
Karen ordered a Caesar Salad with Parmesan, Citrus Gremolata, + house-made anchovy dressing ($13.00). Linda and I both ordered Fish & Chips ($24.00).
Here is Karen’s opinion of her Caesar Salad.
All I can say is there is not much to say. It was kind of bland. Much has changed with the menus since they first opened. But I do like sitting out on the patio with a glass of wine, even on hot days with the misters on. The interior is just too loud. The Sunday Brunch has always been different, a shorter menu and mostly not my cup of tea. The menu changes often enough for me not to know whether to go or not without looking at the menu on the web in advance. I thought the prices had risen to some pretty high standards since the last time we were there. I was a bit disappointed since first discovering Agustin Kitchen, but keep going back because of its proximity and patio.
Gus told me his Steak Sandwich was excellent, but quite large and he took half of it home. My Fish & Chips were OK, but nothing to shout about. The fries were, however, excellent.
Dining on the patio was a delight, particularly after we asked our waitress to activate the misters. We rate Agustin Kitchen with three and a half Saguaros, mostly on the strength of Gus’s Steak Sandwich and the fine patio and wine.
