Hiking Sweetwater Preserve
Sweetwater Preserve is mountain bike, horse, hiker and dog friendly. On the weekends all of the above come out to play. It is one of Pima County’s newest acquisitions, a 700+ acre preserve located on the East side of the Tucson Mountains. Be prepared to share. It is a popular for mountain biking and dog hiking. There are several trails and routes you can take and many are quite confusing. Suffice to say our group was turned around several times before finding the way out. Bring plenty of water. The trailhead is located at the southern end of Tortolita off Camino del Cerro, west of I-10 3 miles, Exit 252. Get a Sweetwater Trail map here. Following is a short slideshow of our hike. The lady & gent you see in these photos are friends Wendy & Richard Buckley visiting from Alberta Canada with their big friendly dog, Casey.
