Guadalajara Original Grill: A Dining Review
One Friday afternoon, Neighbor Roy and I dined at Guadalajara Original Grill on Prince Road. Parking was easy and we were seated right away. A server brought us a big basket of chips and two kinds of salsa, hot and mild. I ordered a house margarita with a salted rim and Roy ordered his usual hot tea. He noted that a lot of places don’t serve hot tea and was glad Guadalajara did.
While we were munching on our corn chips and salsa, our waiter came and we ordered. Roy ordered a Carne Asada Burrito with beans and rice. I ordered a Beef & Shrimp Fajita with beans and rice. While waiting for our lunch, I snapped a couple of photos of the interior.
Our meal was delivered quickly and hot. My fajita dish was sizzling.
I’ll let Roy describe his experience as follows. “We dined at the Guadalajara Mexican restaurant on Prince Rd. For years it housed the Mountain View German-Czech restaurant. The current owners have transformed it into a charming Mexican style restaurant. I do miss the interior garden the Mountain View offered.
I chose the Carna Asada Burrito, enchilada style which comes in two sizes. I chose the larger one, almost too large for lunch. It came with the standard beans and rice with a dollop of sour cream. It was very good but a bit salty for my taste. I would give it 4 saguaros. But I sure do miss the old Mountain View restaurant. There is now not one German restaurant in Tucson.”
Unlike Roy’s burrito, my fajita was not too salty. It was in fact delicious and very filling. I must say that as large as Roy’s burrito was, he did eat the whole thing. Must have been really good. Like Roy, I give Guadalajara Grill Four Saguaros.
Where does Guadalajara Original Grill rank among our Top 10 Mexican Restaurants? Well, it’s not in the Top Three, but certainly is in the top ten.
