The Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium on the UofA campus explores the universe from all perspectives, education for youth and adults. Changing exhibits focus on biology, energy, optics and more, weaving in ground-breaking UA research and revealing the world of science careers for budding scientists.
At Flandrau you can explore the marvels of our universe — from the depths of the ocean to the farthest reaches of space, and everything in between. See one of the amazing FullDome planetarium shows in Flandrau’s newly renovated planetarium theater, the Eos Foundation Theater. This immersive state-of-the-art projection system is like nothing you’ve ever experienced before – we can fly through the Solar System and land on Mars!
Flandrau also offers hands-on exhibits about astronomy, ecology, geology, math and more that are fun for the whole family. Plus you can experience the dazzling specimens of the UA Mineral Museum, one of the top-five gem and mineral collections in the country. Operating the only weekly, free, public astronomy program in Arizona. IF you can’t get to Kitt Peak or the Mt. Lemmon Sky Center, volunteer astronomers at the Flandrau observatory will show you Saturn’s rings, the cloud belts of Jupiter, the Andromeda galaxy and other stunning and beautiful images that will forever transform the way you see our own world. Usually open on Friday and Saturday nights, the observatory is staffed by volunteers so call ahead to make sure it will be open. 520-621-4516.
The University of Arizona Mineral Museum houses one of the top-5 gem and mineral collections of the world. With a core collection dating back to 1892, the Mineral Museum now holds more than 26,000 specimens. The Mineral Museum’s permanent exhibit of over 2,000 specimens includes stunning minerals and meteorites from Arizona, Mexico and around the world.
The Flandrau Science Center also offers Birthday Parties, Discovery programs, and Laser Music Shows.
