Pomegranate Tasting at Mission Garden
This has been a good year for our pomegranates and we want to share a taste with the Tucson community. Come learn how our different cultivars of the heritage white pomegranate all taste and look a little different. Check out tea made from pomegranates. We’ll have snow cones with pomegranate syrup.
This is all happening on the same day as our third Saturday of the month Traditional O’odham Agriculture day, presented by Maegan Lopez, Mission Garden Assistant Gardener, and Sterling Johnson, of the Ajo Center for Sustainable Agriculture. They usually talk about native crops of the Americas grown by the O’odham, but this time they’ll have a perspective on pomegranates, a fruit introduced into our area in the 18th century by European missionaries.
We also want to point you toward the big Pomegranate Festival of the year, which is happening this year in Ajo, AZ. It will be on Saturday October 8 at the International Sonoran Desert Alliance. Learn more at www.isdanet.org !
