An event every week that begins at 8:00 am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, repeating until January 30, 2020
Jan 22 – Jan 30, 2020 | Reception: Jan 29, 3:30 — 4:30pm
Matriarchs is an installation that questions the political structures that systematically oppress women, the social amnesia of women’s history, and the role of women as dictated by familial structures. The necessity of talking to older women to understand women’s progress and the deterioration of history that comes with lost memory is explored through the process of printmaking. Viewers will be welcome to walk through the life of a woman from two generations before, while witnessing the under appreciation of women’s craft and the erasure of women’s history.
Arizona based printmaker, Erin Scott, has been honing her skills in the production of multiples since 2017. She has been blending printmaking with memories of her grandmother, bringing together two different sides of her life to make prints into domestic objects.
Erin’s evolution into object making from a printmaking lens has allowed her to join together two different modes of art making. Her use of print in non-traditional contexts allows Erin to challenge our ideas of printmaking, and of our family knowledge - utilizing repetition to confuse what we think we know.
