Guided Hike to Coronado Peak

April 21 at 9:00 am - 11:00 am

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 9:00 am on Sunday, repeating until May 5, 2019

Join a park ranger for a FREE guided hike to Coronado Peak. Take in the views of northern Mexico, the distant Sierra Madre, and the San Pedro River Valley while learning about the Coronado Expedition of 1540-1542 and the cultural consequences that resulted from this initial meeting of Europeans and Native Americans in the region.

To ride the shuttle to the Pass with a ranger, sign-up for the shuttle at the visitor center before 8:30 am; shuttle leaves promptly at 8:30 am.

Ranger-led hikes begin at Montezuma Pass, three miles past (west) the visitor center. The last two miles of this road to the pass is an unpaved, narrow, graded forest road. It is accessible to most vehicles.

Bring water, sturdy shoes, and sun protection.

Requires a one-mile, moderate, round-trip hike to the peak (300 foot elevation gain).

Ranger-led hikes are free; large groups (10+) should call the park to arrange a group tour.

For more information, or to schedule a group tour, contact park staff at:
