Around the Garden
I am never really sure what folks will be interested in. Some of the shots of critters and plants have received unexpected interest. I have planted, won and lost many battles with the soil and environment. Here is a sampling of the plants in my garden just in time to think about what we will plant next spring. Or what we will take out. Or what we will lose with a hard freeze. At some point I will talk about my experiences with gardening in Arizona, but for now, enjoy the slideshow.
Recommended Reading
When I first arrived in Tucson, I bought a lot of books. Here are a few that I would recommend.
Arizona Gardener’s Guide (Gardener’s Guides)
Organized by type of plant and plant, this book covers most plants that you would want in a Southwest Garden.
Month-By-Month Gardening in the Desert Southwest
This book features plants and gardening on a Month by Month basis.
Deserts (National Audubon Society Nature Guides)
Not just plants but critters of the Southwest too, this book is a staple.
Desert Landscaping: How to Start and Maintain a Healthy Landscape in the Southwest
Just a good book on Landscaping in general around the Southwest.
Yard Full of Sun: The Story of a Gardener’s Obsession That Got a Little Out of Hand
A quirky book about one gardener’s take on the space around the house and what to put in it. Good read too.
