El Pinacate Just Across the Border
This past December we took a road trip to Puerto Peñesco. Some of you may know it as “Rocky Point”. Just north, is the geographical oddity, “El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar Sonora” (translated as “The Pinacate and Great Desert of Altar Sonora”). El Pinacate is named for a black beetle native to the area and has been designated by UNESCO as an International Biosphere Reserve.
On your arrival at the Visitors Center you will have an opportunity to watch this informative video by Mike Foster. This is an introduction to the flora and fauna of the hottest and driest area of North America the El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve of Sonora Mexico. Enjoy!
Mike Foster is videographer for San Pedro River Educational Videos. He produces free educational and artistic videos to further understanding of our part of the world. So important now.
