Hotel San Ramón In Bisbee Arizona: A Review.

Hotel San Ramón with Santiago's on the ground floor.

Bisbee’s historic district is one of the finest examples of early 20th century American cities anywhere. Just walking around will pull you back in time more than a hundred years.
For reasons I cannot explain, Bisbee has some of the very best restaurants in Southern Arizona. Fortuitously, Bisbee also has a couple of fine old hotels. The Hotel San Ramón is one.

2012 List of the Best Southern Arizona Resorts

Ritz-Carlton at Dove Mountain

Conde’ Nast Traveler recently published their list of the Top 25 Resorts in the Southwest. Four Southern Arizona Resorts were included. We too make dining & lodging recommendations. But we focus tightly on the Best Southern Arizona Resorts, not the vast Southwest. And our criteria are somewhat different, but not necessarily better.

Bisbee Grand Hotel Bed & Breakfast: A Review.

Bisbee Grand Hotel Front HDR 02 Final

I have had the pleasure of staying in many historical hotels & inns, including European castles. Considering their antiquity, travelers have to decide if the experience of living temporarily in a relic is worth doing without certain modern amenities and putting up with a few quirks & inconveniences.

Inn At Castle Rock, Bisbee: A Lodging & Dining Review.

Inn at Castle Rock; Bisbee, AZ

I was given a tour of the Inn At Castle Rock recently. What a delightful old hotel. Built for local miners in 1895 by the first mayor of Bisbee, the Inn has 14 comfortably furnished rooms, all with their own theme: Asian, Geronimo, Sultan’s Harem … you get the idea. “Eclectic” would be a gross understatement. Somewhere between quaint and quirky. But none so outlandish that I would describe it as “kinky”.

Lodging Review: Simpson Hotel B&B – Duncan, AZ

Simpson Hotel

Duncan, Arizona is small-town Americana. Not much happens here and, from what we could determine, that’s the way most locals want to keep it. Our main reason for coming to Duncan is that it’s close to Clifton, Morenci’, the Black Hills Byway, and the Gila Box.

Best Southern Arizona Guest Ranches: White Stallion

White Stallion Guest Rooms

We were cruising Twin Peaks Road through the pass that separates the city from the desert when we happened across a sign that read: “White Stallion Guest Ranch”. I had read that this is one of Southern Arizona’s best guest ranches. We did a quick U-turn and followed the signs down the unpaved road for about a mile.

El Presidio Inn Bed & Breakfast – Tucson Historic Neighborhood

El Presidio B&B Courtyard

The Presidio Inn Bed & Breakfast IS authentic Tucson. A real 1886 Victorian adobe example of high-class 19th century Territorial architecture. I want you to experience this unique home for several reasons:
It is not a replica. This was the home of a wealthy family living in a dusty village on the outer edge of the American frontier more than 125 years ago. This at a time when most people here lived in shacks, tents, or dirty, dreary boarding houses.

Cochise Stronghold Bed & Breakfast

Cochise Stronghold

I had a pleasant conversation with the proprietor of the Cochise Stronghold Bed & Breakfast, Ms. Nancy Yates. She showed me around the property and her one unoccupied casita – very pleasant. If I am limited to just two words to describe her B&B, they would be serene and isolated. Unless Nancy gives you VERY specific directions, you will never find it, which is actually her marketing strategy. She has a very specific clientele in mind and does not want people just driving around to bop in uninvited. Much of Nancy’s business is hosting retreats and special events, such as weddings. Nancy prepares special, very healthy breakfasts and has them delivered to your casita. Now, that’s service. … Continue reading

Amado Territory Inn – Near Tubac

amado_territory_inn

We’ve eaten at the Amado Inn restaurant (very good), walked their pleasant grounds, and wandered into their artist studios. I had a brief conversation with the new owner, Wayne, and seen the inside of their inn. I have not stayed here, but this looks like a fine place to overnight and dine in the I-19 corridor when you are visiting the missions and exploring Tubac Village, Titan Missile Museum, or Madera Canyon. More info to come after I experience an overnight. Visit the website 3001 E. Frontage Road, Amado, AZ 85645 … Continue reading

Tombstone Bordello Bed & Breakfast

Tombstone Bordello Pool

I must say, it was a pleasant experience. Not because the Bordello is fancy. It’s not. But the bed was comfortable, the garden and pool area most pleasant. And the hostess, Ms. Lynda, a delight.
The Tombstone Bordello has another advantage. It’s only a five minute walk to THE MAIN EVENT – the OK Corral, Big Nose Kate’s, Crystal Palace, Bird Cage Theater, and the Old Courthouse Museum.
