After 10 weeks and 10 burger reviews, we have selected the establishment with the Best Burgers In Tucson.
You’ve read our burger reviews. You’ve read our summary critique on our Southern Arizona Guide blog at TucsonCitizen.com. So you know what we consider the strengths & weaknesses of each place. (If you don't, see our page "The Criteria for Choosing the Best Burger in Tucson".) But in the end, our over-arching criterion was fairly simple.
If money & time are no object, but we could only ever go to one burger place, which would it be?
Here’s how we rank them.
Note: In July 2016, we reviewed the new Charro Steak Downtown. They offer a Charro Burger which now ranks in the top three. Excellent!
Charro Steak opened in Downtown Tucson in April 2016. I dined there soon after with Julie, the new marketing director at the venerable Rialto Theater. Charro Steak is the offspring of El Charro Café, the legendary Mexican restaurant on Court Street made famous by Chef Carlotta Flores. Opening in 1922, … Continue reading
(2013) Neighbor Roy & I spent weeks in search of the Best Burgers In Tucson. It’s time to choose a winner. We have the following contenders, listed here in roughly the order we reviewed them: (1) Monkey Burger Downtown (2) Diablo Burger Downtown (3) The Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen at Foothills … Continue reading
We were early. Neighbor Roy & I are almost always early. Why anyone would go to a restaurant during crowded peak mealtimes is beyond us. That’s because we can’t remember far enough back to the days when we actually worked for a living and there was only one lunch hour … Continue reading
A few weeks ago, I dined at the Garden Bistro in Tucson’s Tohono Chul Park with my friend, Marcia. She wanted to buy me lunch because she had missed my birthday bash the previous week. Very thoughtful! I had reviewed Garden Bistro last year and have recommended it highly ever since for several reasons. First, […]
I dined at Cody’s Beef & Beans on Ft. Lowell because several of you wrote that it is your favorite burger place. It’s located in a strip mall, but once inside it could be any place Way-Out-West. On the wall opposite the front door hangs a large cowhide & very large mounted bullhorns. Framed western […]
Of those who are following our ranking of the best burgers in Tucson, several readers asked that we consider Trident Grill on Speedway near Campbell. Earlier this week I was given a tour of Adobe Rose Inn, a lovely B&B two blocks east of the University, in preparation for an upcoming List of the Best […]
In our quest to find the best burger in Tucson, Neighbor Roy & I once again left our respective haciendas nestled high in the foothills of the Tucson Mountains and ventured onto the desert flood plain below. Down there, Hohokam eked out a living along the Santa Cruz River a thousand years ago. In the […]
Last week Neighbor Roy & I continued our quest to find the best burger in Tucson. So far, we’ve reviewed Monkey Burger Downtown, and the new Diablo Burger in the Rialto building across from Hotel Congress. On both occasions, we had an overall delightful experience, but did note that both had their strengths & weaknesses. […]
As most of you already know, I am working on this year’s list of the best burgers in Tucson. Last year, Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar was chosen Numero Uno. And Zin may win again. However, this year we have more competitors and Neighbor Roy & I are trying to visit at least one per […]
In our continuing quest to rank the top burger places in Tucson, this week several of us went to Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar at Campbell & Skyline. Yes, we were well aware of Fleming’s variable reputation. Some folks claim they serve the best steak in Tucson. Others say Fleming’s is over-priced and over-rated. […]
